Current Events

CURRENT EVENTS

Mike and I were assigned to create a current event project together.  I really enjoyed working on this assignment.  At first we weren’t sure what to do for this project.  Mike and I decided to go through the NewsELA website and look for an article there to use.  NewsELA is a great site with many current event articles that can be searched for through age group and reading level.  It was there that we found an article for the use of police officers in the classroom.  After reading the article we decided to create a debate to present in the classroom.  We would start off by asking what the definition of a true debate is and how is it useful to get your point across.  Then we would go over the key elements of a good debate.  We would call on volunteers to discuss their thoughts on this.  Why is it important to discuss some subject areas through a debate?  When discussing political values vs personal utilizing a debate is a great way to get your point across.  Once we went over all the key details of a debate we would break the class up into groups and begin the debate.  Unfortunately I was sick the day we were suppose to do our current event and Mike had to do it alone.  I know that he did a great job and I wish that I was able to be there to do it with him.

Artifact Bag

ARTIFACT BAG

The artifact bag was an interesting assignment.  We were assigned to find at least three artifacts that pertained to the country we taught during our unit plan.  For my unit plan I was assigned Ancient Rome.  During my unit plan I had studied, researched, and learned so many amazing things about Ancient Rome.  Even though I had learned a great deal there was still a vast amount of information that was untouched and undiscovered.  This allowed me to delve further into the history of Ancient Rome.  I was extremely excited to do this and thought very carefully about the items I was going to choose for this assignment.  The three items that I chose to place into my bag were; Roman numerals, the newspaper, and the sewer and sanitation system.  I really enjoyed learning deeper into these artifacts and think students would enjoy them as well

JIGSAW PRESENTATION

This jigsaw project was on the PIGS of Cooperative Learning.  Mike and I were grouped together and we created a presentation on the Social Interactive Learning Model.  I really enjoyed working with Mike on this project.  I learned a great deal about cooperative learning while working on this project.  Once Mike and I were finished with our project it was time to take our information to our main groups and teach it to them.  My main group was Kristine, Rachel, and I.  We met during class and each went through our power point lessons and taught one another about our specific topic.  At the end of the presentation I gave them a Kahoot quiz to test their knowledge on the subject and both did extremely well.  All and all this was a great way of teaching one another and I found the jog saw to be extremely beneficial.
